Recommendation on the hours of official meetings at the University of Warsaw

Posted on October 23, 2024 by Paulina Górnicka

The University of Warsaw adopted the Recommendation on the hours of official meetings at the University of Warsaw aimed at strengthening the balance between work, private and family life.

Meetings of university bodies, i.e. the Senate of the University of Warsaw or the University Council, as well as important official meetings, i.e. the Faculty Council or Discipline Councils, should take place during the accepted working hours, i.e. between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. – adequate to the opening hours of care and educational facilities.

Many units at the University of Warsaw have introduced organizational solutions for official meetings that support work ergonomics and work-life balance. These include:

  • reserving one day a week for organizational meetings – so that on that day, meetings of the Faculty Councils, Discipline Councils, department meetings, etc. are held alternately,
  • starting meetings, e.g. 1:00 p.m. and clearly communicating that this is due to respect for the family obligations of some employees,
  • introducing time discipline during meetings so that they do not end later than the time specified in advance.

The recommendation to organize official meetings while taking into account the opening hours of educational and care facilities was also included in the Gender Equality Plan for the University of Warsaw, and results from the diagnosis of the needs of the university community, signaled in the “Equality at the University of Warsaw” study in 2018-2019 and reinforced in the study “Being a Parent at UW” 2022-2023 and in “Equality at UW 2” in 2024. This is also consistent with the EU work/life balance directive.
