The European Commission has adopted the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy 2026–2030, continuing the efforts initiated in 2020. The strategy sets out the EU’s priorities for protecting the rights of LGBTIQ people and combating discrimination across Member States.
The strategy focuses on three main areas:
Protection against hate crimes and conversion practices,
Strengthening equality bodies and promoting equal treatment in public and professional life,
Engagement of society and Member States in implementing a unified equality policy.
The new strategy places greater emphasis on tackling online violence, supporting LGBTIQ families, and improving monitoring of EU law implementation in this area.
While the strategy provides a framework at the EU level, its effectiveness will largely depend on concrete actions taken by individual Member States, including the development of national equality plans.
